NEW YORK, NY – Today, Midtown Manhattan celebrates the opening of its first day spa.
The spa will be open in all avenues and streets, running east from First Avenue to Twelfth Avenue, and north from 40th Street to Central Park South. The spa is open to the public from sundown to sunset.
The project is the brain child of Lira Dinero, an entrepreneur and self-made millionaire.
Dinero said the idea came to him after leaving a business luncheon on hot, hazy afternoon. “I spilled my to-go S. Pellegrino on the sidewalk, and it just steamed up, and that reminded me of a sauna I was in this morning. And just, BAM! It hit me. Midtown should open a sauna.”
Since admission must be free, the project will generate revenue from towel rental and bottled water sales, said Dinero.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg hailed to opening as an effective way to incorporate the community into what has traditionally been a private setting for the elite. Bloomberg also said that revenues generated by the Midtown Suana, as the project is officially known, will help the cash-strapped city.
“I am excited about bringing these services to the City. This project will also do a lot to promote fiscal health,” Bloomberg said.
Numerous celebrities lauded the opening, including Paris Hilton. The hotel-heiress and reality-television star summed up the opening with one word: “Hot.”
